Train from Incheon Airport to Gimpo Airport

Transiting from Incheon Airport to Gimpo Airport is often required for those who arrive in Korea on international flights and take a domestic flights to their next destination such as Jeju [Things to do] or Busan [Things to do]. Do not worry. There is a train connecting Incheon Airport and Gimpo Airport. Here is how.

How to Take Train from Incheon International Airport Terminal 1 to Gimpo Airport?

[NOTE] Photos and direction below are for Terminal 1 of Incheon International Airport. Terminal 2 opened on 18 Jan 2018 will be even nearer to the Airport Railroad Station.

First of all, after you have cleared the immigration check point and collected your baggages, you will get into the ARRIVAL HALL of Incheon Airport at LEVEL 1. To catch a train to Gimpo Airport, you need to go to the Airport Railroad Station at LEVEL B1.

STEP 1: GO FROM LEVEL 1 ARRIVAL HALL TO LEVEL B1 AIRPORT RAILROAD STATION.

If you have a lot of baggages with you and you are using the airport trolley, it is best to use the lift / elevator to go from Level 1 Arrival Hall to Level B1 Airport Railroad Station to catch the train to Gimpo Airport. The lifts / elevator looks like this. You wont miss them.

Once you have arrived at the LEVEL B1 of Incheon Airport, walk towards the Airport Railroad station. If you are tired by now, you can always use the walkalator. Just stand, and the walkalator will do the walking for you.

STEP 2: TAKE THE ALL-STOP-TRAIN FROM INCHEON AIRPORT TO GIMPO AIRPORT

Before long, you will arrive at the Airport Railroad Station. There are TWO TYPES OF TRAIN HERE:

  1. ALL-STOP-TRAIN: Take this train to Gimpo Airport
  2. Airport Express (AREX) Train: DO NOT take this train. It does not stop at Gimpo airport. AREX is a non-stop train from Incheon Airport to Seoul Station in downtown Seoul.

It is IMPORTANT to take note that there are two train lines at Airport Railroad Station. One is the "ALL-STOP-TRAIN" service that will stop at all stations (including Gimpo Airport Station) along its way to Seoul Station. The other one is the Airport Express (AREX) Train that goes direct from Incheon Airport to Seoul Station in downtown Seoul. Gimpo Airport is station number 7 from Incheon Airport for ALL-STOP-Train. On the way, you will pass through the following train stations: Unseo, Yeongjong, Cheongna International City, Geoman and Gyeyang before arriving at Gimpo Airport. After that, the train will continue to Digital Media City, Hongik University, Gongdeok and finally Seoul Station.
On the other hand, AREX train does NOT stop at Gimpo Airport. Therefore, you should take the the ALL-STOP-TRAIN to go to Gimpo Airport. You should not take AREX train because it will go straight to Seoul Station in downtown without stopping at Gimpo Airport.
Fortunately, Incheon Airport authority make it very easy to differentiate between these two train services at the Airport Railway Station. The All Stop Train to Gimpo is on the left when you arrive at the Airport Railway Station and its signboard has blue background. On the right hand side is Airport Express (AREX) station and its signboard has orange background. The signboards look like below.

Once you are at the entrance to All-Stop-Train station, you can BUY YOUR TICKET at the Automatic Ticket Machine or Customer Information Center.

Train ticket fare for All-Stop-Train from Incheon Airport to Gimpo Airport

The one way ticket for All-Stop-Train from Incheon International Airport to Gimpo Airport is 3,750Won for Adult. Infant and toddlers from 0 to 5 years old and elderly people above 65 years old can travel for free. There are 50% discount for children aged between 6 years old and 13 years old. Furthermore, 20% discount is avaiable for youth aged 13 to 18 years old.

Types of ticket for All-Stop-Train at Incheon Airport to Gimpo Airport

For tourists who just use this train to transit from Incheon Airport to Gimpo Airport, the most suitable type of ticket is the SINGLE JOURNEY CARD which can be purchased from the automatic ticket machine. Note that there is a 500Won deposit for buying this single journey card which will be refunded to you upon returning this card to the automatic ticket machine when you reach Gimpo Airport. This deposit is an environmental friendly measure meant to encourage one time train passengers to return their card for reuse.

After you have bought your All-stop-train ticket, you can proceed to the auto-gate to get into the All-stop-train station. You can see Gimpo Airport as one of the destination on the overhead signboard. Proceed to the train platform to wait for the arrival of next train. You can see Gimpo Airport on the signboard of the train platform as well, as shown in the photo below.

How long is the transfer time from Incheon Airport to Gimpo Airport? 

Well, the travelling time for All-Stop-Train from Incheon Airport to Gimpo Airport is about 21 minutes. If you are transferring from Inchoen Airport to Gimpo Airport, you should set aside sufficient time, taking into consideration the time to clear border check / immigration, baggage collection, and check-in time at Gimpo Airport etc. However, if you only consider train travelling time alone (including walking to/from the station), 45 minutes to 1 hour should be enough.

Schedule of All-Stop-Train from Incheon Airport to Gimpo Airport

There is a train departing from Incheon Airport to Gimpo Airport every 6 to 10 minutes. As for the schedule of the train, the all-stop-train service from Incheon Airport starts 5.23am early in the morning. The last train that departs from Incheon Airport to Gimpo Airport at 11:42pm before mid-night according to the schedule of the train service.

For the reverse direction, that is, if you are taking train from Gimpo Airport to Incheon Airport, you can also use the same All-stop-train service. The first train departs from Gimpo Airport to Incheon Airport at 5.42am early in the morning. According to the schedule of the train from Gimpo Airport, the last train from Gimpo Airport to Incheon Airport will departs near mid-night at 11:59pm.

STEP 3: ARRIVING AT GIMPO AIRPORT 

After a train ride of about 21 minutes from Incheon Airport, you will arrive at Gimpo International Station. Get off the train, do not forget your baggages and leave them behind. From the train platform at the station, walk towards Gimpo Airport following the signage. You will go through the escalator as shown the photos below. Note that in South Korea, the etiquette when using the escalator is to stand on the right hand side to give way to those who would like to walk up the escalator on the left, as shown in the photo below.
After you left the train station through the autogate, remember to surrender your SINGLE JOURNEY CARD to get your refund of KRW500 deposit. There is a automatic ticket machine at the exit for this purpose.

As you continue to walk towards Gimpo Airport, there will be a point where you have to decide to turn left or turn right. If you are going to take an international flight at Gimpo Airport, turn right at the junction when you see the signboard in the photo below. On the other hand, turn left if you are going to take a domestic flight at Gimpo Airport.

Since most people who take the train from Incheon Airport to Gimpo Airport are taking domestic flights to local destinations in South Korea such as Busan and Jeju Island, we will show you the direction to domestic departure in the remainder of this guide.

After you turn left to the direction of domestic departure terminal at Gimpo Airport, you will come to the escalator to go up to the check-in and departure level of Gimpo Airport.

Finally, you have arrived at the Gimpo Airport domestic terminal! From here, you should go to the 2nd Floor for Check-in before going to 3rd floor for domestic flight departure to your next destination.

At Gimpo Airport Domestic Terminal, go to 2nd Floor for flight check-in and then 3rd floor for flight departure.

Getting to Gimpo Airport from Incheon Airport

That's it. A simple guide for you to take train from Incheon Airport to Gimpo Airport. Taking train for this journey is easy and reliable. The only important thing that you have to remember is to take the All-Stop-Train, not the Airport Express (AREX) train from Incheon Airport. This is because only the All-stop train will stop at Gimpo Airport. Airport Express (AREX) train will go straight to Seoul Station without stopping at Gimpo Airport. For any reason, if you prefer not to take the train from Incheon Airport to Gimpo Airport (also known as Kimpo Airport), you can also take the airport shuttle bus from Incheon Aiport to Gimpo Airport.     hi.. is it possible to transfer airport from Incheon to Gimpo without visa? im going to Jeju but theres connecting flight which means Im going outside the Incheon and pass through immigration.

      Yes, you will need a Korea visa as normally because you are going outside of Incheon Airport. I suggest you check the specific visa requirement for your country into South Korea to avoid any problem going from Incheon Airport to Gimpo Airport.

      No, you can take the All-Stop-Train from Gimpo Airport to Seoul Station. The All-Stop-Train goes to Seoul Station too. There is no need to go back to Incheon Airport to take AREX train.

      Personally I will choose flight after 10:00am to be safe in case your flight is slightly delayed. If there are a lot of flight arrivals at Incheon Airport it may take 1 hour to clear immigration check point and baggage collection.

    In my opinion, you have enough time to transfer from Incheon Airport to Gimpo Airport if your flight arrival at Incheon Airport is not delayed. Jeju Air normally provides free baggage allowance for domestic flights in Korea but you should check your ticket details to confirm.

    I saw an article about visa-free if ICN will be your layover to GMP to CJU..I'm not sure if that's true. I'm from Philippines and direct flight from Manila to Jeju is quite expensive. Sept2016..I booked my flight to Incheon. March2017 I applied for tourist visa and got denied :( so I was wondering if there is still a way to use my booked ticket since it's not refundable..I was planning to go to Jeju through Incheon to Gimpo.     I am travelling to Ulsan from Incheon - Gimpo Domestic airport to catch flight to ulsan at 10 am at Gimpo. My query is Gimpo airport international airport and domestic airport is separate also my luggages from India by Korean airways will be staright away available at ulsan or I have to collect it at Incheon and take it with me to Gimpo and upto Ulsan.       You should claim your luggages at Incheon Airport and clear custom checking. After that, take your luggages with you and use the train to go to Gimpo Airport (there is only one Gimpo Airport, catering for both domestic and international). There are many money changers outside the arrival hall of Incheon International Airport where you can exchange USD to KRW.

      You can consider staying at Lotte City Hotel Gimpo Airport, which is co-located with Lotte Mall Gimpo Airport (you can do some shopping if you are bored). You can also go to Seoul easily because this hotel offer a free shuttle bus to downtown Myeongdong, Seoul. Alternatively, you can also take train because the hotel is only a 5-minute walk to Gimpo Airport Station that is on Seoul metro Line 5 and Line 9.
      Since your flight is at 9 am the next day, staying at Lotte City Hotel Gimpo Airport is safer because it provides free shuttle bus service to and from Gimpo Airport every 30 minutes from starting 06:00 AM. Booking of Lotte City Hotel Gimpo Airport can be done at

      It is a bit tight in my opinion. Depending on the arrival crowd at Incheon, during busy hours, it could take you 1 hour to clear immigration and collect your baggage at Incheon Airport before starting your journey to Gimpo Airport.

      You can exchange money at the money changers at the arrival hall of Incheon Airport before buying the train tickets from Incheon Airport to Gimpo Airport. There are a few of them and you can easily find them in the arrival hall.

      International credit card is widely accepted at the airport . Please check with your bank if activation for international transaction is required.

    Thanks for your time to respond tourists' questions, including mine. I have One more : How far do they allow passengers to push the airport trolleys? Where will they stop us ? Can I push the trolley through the automatic gate at the train station on to the platform ? or i will be stopped at the ticket machine/customer counter
    It probably is a silly question for you, but this is important for me because I am in my 60 's, I need this info for packing. Thank you Chicken Share Happy Holidays

    I will arrive at Incheon at around 09:00am and depart from Gimpo at 12:00, so I have just three hours. How much time needs the check-in and security controls in Gimpo? I'm quite nervous at the moment :-/

      It depends on Gimpo airport busy-ness at that time. 3 hours transit is possible but a bit tight. Hopefully your flight arrive in Incheon on time or earlier. All the best.

    Thanks for all your information, I really need them.
    I have not purchased my air tickets from Seoul to Busan. My arrival time at Seoul Incheon Airport is 15:30hr on a Thursday. Timings for departure by Air Busan and Asiana are 18:00, 18:30, 19:30, 20:00 etc. I know that the later the flight we will have the least chance to miss it. Buffering 4 hours, 19:30hr flight is it safe enough?

    Recently I got to understand that Korean count their age differently. The children train ticket price is for age 4-12. My daughter was born June 2006. On 20.12.18, is she considered 12-year-old or 13-year-old when buying the train tickets?
